Hitachi NR83A Full Head Construction Strip Nailer

Hitachi NR83A Full Head Construction Strip Nailer

Hitachi's full-head framing nailer is a solid industry staple that hasn't changed a heck of lot for a long time. The main improvement on this latest version is the soft grip, which seems to be made of a wrapped tape similar to what's found on many bicycle handles. It feels comfortable in the hand, and should it wear out, one can always get replacement tape at the local bicycle shop. This is a well-balanced nailer, solidly constructed but not too heavy. The secret behind this nailer's ongoing popularity with professionals is its reliable design--it can be expected to last a long time on job sites without a lot of problems. With 860 inch-pounds of driving force, it is among the most powerful nailers available, and, when paired with an appropriate compressor, it sinks its nails every time. Although this nailer lacks some of the popular features found on more recent designs--such as an adjustable exhaust port and depth of drive--it does have a solid track record that few other tools can match. --Brian Trinen
